Good for emergencies
Although these are really handy for emergencies or first aid kits, I wouldn't use these for general day to day aches, pains or headaches. They're big packs so fantastic if you sprained a knee etc as could wrap it right around pretty much. As they're not "activated" until you twist them to release the little water pack then you don't have to mess around trying to keep things cold just in case.In terms of first aid use they are really good, activate almost immediately and last for around 40-50mins which should be enough time to get you to the hospital, drs or just home with something a bit more permanent a solution. As they're 1 time use though I would only really consider using them for this.If you had a headache or similar the time they work for isn't really suitable, in addition to the cost for that 1 time use. They're also quite bulky so if you're a regular headache sufferer you're better off with koolnsoothe or similar thin gel patches.

Good but could be colder and last longer
Easy to use, the internal liquid bursts easily with slight pressure. It says to always use within an ice pack cover however I used it straight on my skin and it was fine, it’s cold but not out the freezer cold. Could do with staying colder for longer too. I found it warmed up quite quickly when against my skin.

Stay cold for about 45mins.
Had no idea these things existed until until my other half took a tumble & injured her ankle, while we were walking through the park the other week...(Big shout out to the staff at the Burrell Collection, it's the museum in Pollock Country park, check it out next time you're in Glasgow, tell them Andy sent you).On hearing (& seeing, due to the hobbling) what had happened, we were offered a wheelchair and an ice pack....the ice pack sounded a lot of hassle, so we declined, only to be told it was "no hassle, they're instant!"Sure enough, a twist, then a shake of the bag & there you had an impressively cold ice pack....magic or perhaps witchcraft!!The cold definitely helped numb some of the pain & would have eased some of the swelling.Anyway, we decided that we should get some of our own, due to her having regular headaches.Well, this evening, these bags got their 1st try out, equally simple as the ones from the museum, twist, shake, cold. These are in individual zip-lock bags, we opted to leave it within, but it still gave a very effective cooling sensation. There's around 45 mins of cooling before it's exhausted it's sorcery.I've now stashed one in her glove box, as we never know when her head will need attention.I was actually surprised at how cheap these were for a box of 12, bargain. For aches & pains, when you can't grab some ice, these are definitely worth storing a bag or two.

Cracking
They suggest a cold compress to help a bad back, so I do use them more often than I would like. I have a couple of items chilling in the freezer in anticipation. These 'Lewis-Plast Premium Instant Ice Pack' allow for more flexibility and travel but do come at a price. You get ten in a pack, and this alone takes up space. The packs themselves are easy to activate, just crack them and the chemical reaction begins. They become cold to the touch, without giving you chill burn. As a tool they work well and will cover a decent size muscle. I would think they are best in the first aid kit of a sports team or club as they are quick and easy to use. For the home they are too much of a luxury as you can use the reusable one from the freezer again.

Cooling sensation
These bags come in a set of 10. They are longs so they are usefully for wrapping around your legs or arm.The bags are very helpful to have at home or on the go incase of emergency. The bags are easy use, there's a small pocket of water inside that breaks when the bag twists to activate the cooling feeling. The cold lasts for a long time too so it's great to have with you during sports games. They are easy to store in the car so we always have one on the go.
