These have lasted a long time for my husband (when he's not losing them under his workbench!)
The first time I'd ordered an impeller on Amazon (back in 2015), it was because the little guy had slipped out of my husband's hand as he was cleaning his AquaClear 50 filter and rolled under his mammoth, heavy workbench that canNOT be moved in our cramped combo laundry/furnace room (which is cramped BECAUSE of said workbench!) He was shocked to find out the little aquarium store he'd frequented for ages no longer carried Hagan's AcquaClear filter parts - AquaClear has been his all-time favorite filter out of the endless array of clip-ons, external and internal filters he's tried over the past going on 50 years of his fish hobby, so I was happy to find them on Amazon - didn't even know what the thingamajiggy was called and had to look it up. In doing so on Hagan's site, I was happy to find it cost less to order one on Amazon than directly from Hagan, let alone what he'd been paying for parts at his little fish store! The thing with impellers is that they have to be cleaned frequently (my husband tries to make sure to do it @ 4 times a year) to keep them functioning properly - it's the only moving part of the filter, with its ability to rotate freely within the pump being of primary importance in maintaining the flow of water through the filter itself. Well, it happened AGAIN, this time with the impeller of his AquaClear 70 (and I think it may have been a bit longer than 3 months since the last cleaning, because it started to rattle - which drives me nuts, and is a sure sign that the impeller needs to be cleaned before it gets too gunked up and burns up the motor!) I jumped back on here and found the same thing price-wise... $16.83 on Amazon, $19.99 direct from Hagan. His experience is that these parts really do last a long time (if they're properly maintained and don't end up under a workbench!), especially if he occasionally applies a drop or two of silicon oil (safe for fish) now and then. But I sure hope he's a bit more careful - if the impeller of his 110 decides to join its buddies under that daggone workbench, I'm not going to be a happy camper. Even with the cost savings, it still seems like a lot of money for such a little thingamajiggy!

Just the perfect part
My filter stopped working and this was the culprit. It’s so nice to be able just to replace the impeller instead of having to buy an entire new filter.

FINALLY My 50 Gallon Filter Works As It Should With The Upgrade To The 70 Gallon Impeller
I have used Aquaclear filters for quite some time now, and my oldest 50gallon filter had some serious problems happening. Some crusting had developed on the impeller as well as the place where it has to spin around. This prevented it from moving. No matter how much I scraped and cleaned, the impeller just didn't want to work smoothly. It was time for another.I purchased this impeller for the 70gallon because I never really liked the impeller for the 50 gallon filter. It always clogged the tube too easily and I didn't feel that they were quite powerful enough.I had an extra filter handy, so I changed out the motor (which is the same for all of the sizes up to 70) to make sure to have a smooth surface and put in the only impeller I had- a 30 gallon. This led to some cloudy problems, so I changed it out for the 70 when I got it and VOILA! It works like a dream. I plan to replace my other 50s with this impeller over time.THE BOTTOM LINEReplacing my impeller in my 50 gallon filter with this 70 gallon impeller has really made my filter work a LOT better. Finally I feel it has a good flow to it and is stronger like I think it should have been to begin with. My tank is doing a LOT better now. I have it double filtered so I plan to replace the other 50 with the same 70 gallon impeller.

Reliable and somewhat adjustable water flow, but can be noisy
I've been using the Aquaclear 70 filter for a couple of years, and the impeller has become increasingly noisy, possibly due to wear and tear, which may have affected its balance, thereby causing it to come into contact with the side of the shaft. I've read on other forums that the noise/rattling might be inherent to the design, and not necessarily due to wear and tear. If you encounter this rattling prematurely, or after extended use, a small dab of Vaseline under the impeller's wheel has been found to alleviate the noise, at least temporarily, which I can attest to. These forums also assure users that such a small amount of Vaseline will not pose any contamination issues. Another problem I've encountered on a regular basis with this particular filter/impeller is it's propensity to jam when the filter's turned on. You add some water to the filter's reservoir, but the impeller doesn't turn. More often than not, an easy fix involves lifting the water tube that covers the impeller just enough to lightly poke a pen or other pointy object into the wheel, which invariably jars the impeller assembly enough to start it spinning. This may very well be due to wear and tear on the impeller as well, but it's also occurred with relatively new impellers. So if the impeller doesn't spin when the filter is powered on, don't assume the impeller or filter needs to be replaced; first prod the impeller wheel before replacing anything.
