Excellent, but error in instructions for Linux
UPDATE: I was quite pleased until I ran the first Ubuntu 16.04 LTS update that effected the kernel, this update apparent removes installs that it does not recognize, namely the drivers for this device. This happens every time such an update occurs. Thus you have to make/install again, and again, and again. This obviously in not acceptable, thus I have reduced my rating from the initial 5 to 2. This device is hardly useful on Unbuntu (and most likely Linux distros derived from) based machines. Fortunately for my Linux Mint machine I had purchased a Panda device, fantastic.I was extremely pleased to see a company that supports Linux, these are hard to come by. With doubt, I might add, I purchased this dongle for use on my Ubuntu 16.04 LTS machine (an old Dell Inspiron N5050). Perused the instructions and since this is the latest LTS version of the operating system I thought that maybe the drivers are there. There were not - plugging in dongle did nothing. So. Follow the directions given on the enclosed little folding instruction card entitled "Quick Installation for Linux". All proceeded as expected until Step-D; "sudo modprobe 8812au" which produced a "NO SUCH FILE ERROR". Reviewed contents of directory and found the file rtl8812au.o. This is the file you need to run.So, enter the command:sudo modprobe rtl8812auThe adapter functions quite well and using the 5G connection I now have excellent speed.

Works on Linux Mint if you setup drivers correctly
This is a good platform device. I got it working on Linux Mint only after ignoring the packaged instructions. I found these instructions and they worked great:First, install some dependencies:sudo apt-get install gcc-5 build-essential git linux-headers-$(uname -r)Then, run the following commands:(Due to Amazons restrictions I can not post a web site and the "git clone" command is followed by a web site. I will try to work around and give you hints)git clone "website github"/diederikdehaas/rtl8812.AU.gitcd rtl8812AUmake CC=/usr/bin/gcc-5sudo make installsudo modprobe 8812auecho 8812au | sudo tee -a /etc/modules

Good unit with good CD to install
In Linux, this product installed first try using supplied CD. I use software from this unit for both units I bought. Other unit has poor CD from 2010 that fails install to linux.Install in Windows 8.1 was automated & next-next-next easy. Included software for Win is like that of $200 access points.Configuration as access point or hot spot is easy.Much better performance than inbuilt Lenovo antenna.

Not as easy to set up for Linux as led to believe
The product works quite well, but I have to withhold one star for being a little deceptive about Linux driver support. The driver's included on the CD for Linux aren't right, and the manual includes instructions for downloading and compiling the correct ones. There's no driver package, here - you have to break into the command line to complete the installation, and worse yet - YOU HAVE TO HAVE AN INTERNET CONNECTION ALREADY ACTIVE. This wireless device was destined for a desktop in a room far from my router, so this meant dragging the entire system down to the router to complete the installation for Linux. That said, if you're using Linux you generally have the know-how to handle these issues. And once it's working, it works REALLY well. It handles the 5GHz band better than my laptop's wireless card, with a rock-steady connection that's really quite fast.

The software that came with it is corrupt. That’s ...
The software that came with it is corrupt. That’s what windows 10 is telling me.I tried to reinstall it. it will not, gives you a error that the installation was not complete and it shuts down.I went to Lesviwo (the makers) and they have no support for it. I went to Realtek the chipset maker down loaded their driver and got the same results.Don’t waist your time or money.Im going to try to get money back..

2 out of 3 work... and that's a bummer
I originally would have left 5 stars. But...I bought three of these for my children's desktop gaming pc's. Two of them work quite well, but after 2 weeks of using the third one, it's dead. Won't work at all.Two out of three isn't terrible until one of your children is left connectionless while brother and sister are minecrafting without them.Unreliable to break after just two weeks. Sad.The two that work don't seem to have any network connection issues. Plug and play.

I was up and running on our wifi signal and the speeds were terrific.
I needed to move my desktop (running Win 10) into another room and didn't want to run a WAN cable to the modem. I ordered this adapter because my desktop didn't have wifi. When I received it, I simply plugged it into the USB and it was recognized in less than five seconds. In less than one minute, I was up and running on our wifi signal and the speeds were terrific.

Far better than I expected it to be, but it broke in 4 months
I was actually surprised by this. First, you need to install the drivers included. I originally used the drivers that Win10 supplied and I wasn't happy with the speed. However, I then installed the drivers that came with the product, and my internet is now fast as can be. It is much better than my previous USB wifi adapter. I am unexpectedly impressedUPDATE: 4 months of very good service and then, dead. Sigh.
