Slim PSP 2000 Analog Stick Replacement

Works great--but you need to know what you're doing.
Games which needed the joystick proved that something weird was going on with my joystick. Even when my hands weren't touching my PSP, the character would move slowly to the left. It was then I knew something was definetly wrong with the joystick. I bought from this listing hoping I could get a new joystick that would solve my joystick problem. I opened up my PSP and replaced the joystick module except it still kept happening--even with the new joystick module. So I went online and looked up some similar cases and solutions for my problem and encountered this response to an inquiry on FixYa.com:"I recently ran into this same problem of a PSP joystick "jumping" or hopping around. Since I'm an electronics engineer I was determined to get to the bottom of this annoying problem, I read all the posts on the site and none helped, but the problem turned out to be much easier fixed than I first anticipated.First of all I assume that you know how to take the PSP apart and take out the joystick module as well. The Joystick module connects to the PSP mainboard by means of 4 contacts, seperated by a spacer conductor that appears like a rectangular rubber, be careful not to lose this during the process. Here is why the problem occurs, when you have a faulty joystick module, one or more of those 4 contacts don't connect to the main board anymore, so the when the PSP is trying to measure the resistance to determine the joystick position, it reads a varying value, i.e. the contact is floating. This happens for mainly 2 reasons, dirt or a faulty module, as stated in the previous posts, the contacts could be dirty, but this can usually easy be seen, and this wasn't the problem in my case, I had a faulty module, but luckily all is not lost. Here's how to fix a faulty module in most cases. Remove the joystick module from the PSP completely, put that little rectangular rubber on the 4 contacts (clear in my case) aside and keep it safe. There is metal clasp on the bottom of the module, you can simply pop it off with a screwdriver, by slightly bending the clasps on the side and taking it off. Now you should be able to see a VERY SIMPLE mini circuit board with tracks on, on the bottom of the module, you can indeed pop this off too. On this you will see tracks where the joystick sliders move. Put the circuit board aside too. Now look at the now completely open joystick module, you will see the two sliders each having a metal part, each of these metal parts has 2 very small contacts that run on the circuit board tracks that you just removed, most times these small contacts get bent inward and they can't make contact with the circuit board tracks anymore. Just bend them slightly outward again, so that when you put circuit board back, they touch the tracks on the board nicely. Put the circuit board back, it just slips back on, put the metal clasp back, put the rubber back in over 4 contacts on the module and voila, if all goes well you will have a nice working joystick module again. Put it back in the PSP and test it to see if it worked. In my case it worked 100% and saved me a few bucks. Hope this helps everyone. Let me know if it worked."[...]I applied the above method onto my old Sony joystick module. (not the one from this listing) I would recommend that anybody who does use the method above to also clean the green circuit board inside the module. I recommend using "Isopropyl 70% Rubbing Alcohol" OR "Windex Electronics Spray". I recommend those two to clean the circuit board because they are safe to use for electronics and may even increase contact connectivity. To clean, apply either the windex OR alcohol onto a microfiber cloth or cottonswab. Gently wipe the cloth/swab on the circuitboard to clean off dirt, grime, etc. Don't use a cottonswab that falls apart easily. (fat cottonswabs with a lot of cotton on the tips fall apart easily, so use the kind that are thin)This isn't that great of a review, but I figured those with a broken joystick will probably find this review helpful to thier situation. Good luck all.

Item OK, but didn't solve the problem
The item itself worked at the very least, but it didn't solve the drifting problem on the analog, which come to be very unusual, I'm starting to think that the problem must be the contacts on the motherboard itself or the ones that connect the analog with the motherboard, for those that say that doesn't work try to look for that little gel thing with embedded contacts(which has to be over the analog that is on the PSP), if you don't place them on the new analog's contacts then the analog won't connect to the motherboard and it won't work at all; by the way, this item doesn't come with that gel thing so if you missed and are looking for it, then this is not the item you should buy.In resume, buy it only if you REALLY need it, and search if this is a possible solution to your problem with the PSP.

Definitely worth a dollar
I'll start by saying that it does workHonestly though, it is not a smooth analog stick. It feels like it's sticking when you move it, and hardly ever comes back to neutral when you let it go. Many times I have to give it a little bump to make my characters stop moving, or my cars stop turning. But it definitely works better than the broken one I had before, so for a dollar, it's hard to be upset about it.

The analog stick replacement was perfect.
I chose a 4 star rating due to the fact the analog stick replacement did not come with the clear plastic contact necessary to make the analog stick work with the PSP. Other than that, the quality of the joystick was fine and it works as I expected it to.Overall I'm very satisfied with my purchase and I'll be doing business with these guys again for sure!Thank you for your time!

After 4 years
After almost 4 years I found the joystick which was inside the mailbox of the apartment where I lived when I was a student in the University. I had to force the mailbox with my brother and found it there in perfect condition thanks to the good package they used and arrival date was on time since I checked the USPS tracking on it. In all and all... 4 years or very rainy and heavily sunny days and nights inside a mailbox and still in such a good condition, that really counts as a plus to me.

Okay...
Feels a bit harder than the original but it's fine. Doesn't come with the plastic contact that it's needed to connect to the logic board, which is a drawback DON'T LOOSE IT.

Lacking
leads were corroded and covered in other debris, looks as if the product was old and used
