Samsung NX 12-24mm f/4.0-5.6 Camera Lens (Black)

Fantastic ultrawide lens, lightweight, sharp, wonderful colour rendering, nice bokeh if wanted. Ex Canon, Ricoh, Sigma Foveon user. Too bad Samsung left us without saying anything like Good bye and thanks for supporting niche products..

Returned this lens, disappointed.

Really sharp in almost 80% of the frame (just a little blurried, as expected for this kind of lens, on the edges), really good colors, fast and silent focus, portable and super light. Excellent quality for the price. I am glad I purchased it. I will let my photos speak for me. 100% recommended.

This lens is definitely a must-buy for anyone with a Samsung NX camera. The mid-range zoom lens only get down to 16, 18 or 20mm (depending on lens model), and although there is a 10mm prime, it's a fish-eye lens and creates extreme distortion. This lens allows down to a very wide 12mm (equivalent to 18.5mm on a film camera) without substantial distortion. At 12mm, it has an angle of view of 99°.The lens is of moderate size, about the same as the 18-55mm. The wide-angle primes are much smaller, but it's tiny compared to the 16-50mm S behemoth. It weighs in at about 1/2 a pound and is 2-1/2 inches long without the hood. The flower petal hood adds an extra 1-1/4 inches.On the negative side, this lens has the lowest maximum aperture of any NX lens, f/4.0 at 12mm to f/5.6 at 24mm, however, as wide-angle lenses are usually used for landscapes and scenery, a narrow depth of field is normally undesirable. The only real disadvantage this lens has is in low light conditions. One of the primes would be preferable in this kind of situation (the 16mm prime is f/2.4, 1-2/3 f-stops wider).I would strongly recommend this lens as one of a trio of lenses for any amateur, along with the 50-200mm telephoto and one of the mid-range zooms. For the experienced photographer, it's still worthwhile as it is the widest low-distortion lens currently available for the NX.

Good quality lens. Fast speed. It's heavier than the camera itself.

At first I could not really understand the advantage of this lens. I stayed persistent with it because I paid double for the lens than I did for the camera itself! After experimenting on a few field trips, I find I love using it! Perfect for landscapes, but also works amazing in indoor spaces, and for portraiture. Allows for more to capture within an image to expand a story beyond a portrait lens. I use this primarily for documenting events and places, but also use it for interior spaces and showcasing interior designs, as well as more frequently for interesting portraiture.
